WIP: "Wreathed Hornbill - Wilderness Sentinel"

When I lived in Jakarta, Indonesia I travelled a lot throughout this island country.

My favourite bird is the Hornbill with their textured Casque and Wrinkled throat sacks. Beautiful birds and so many colours and varieties, soaring above the tree tops.

Here I have started a highly textured Hornbill painting and you can see my progress from the abstract ink background to the textured Casque, Throat & eye. I will continue on with the eye then move to the black feathers at the back of the head.

WIP: Commissioned Mixed Media

I have started a new Commission, another of my favourites - Mixed Media.

Size: 120cm x 90cm

So far I have added a layer of hand painted papers in the shape of rocks, and a Brown Snake skin above that. The leaf prints get mostly covered up as the colours chosen by the Client are opaque, something new for me to embrace.The base sky layer has been added, a stormy sky over Mt Ninderry.

1. Refine the sky, cloud shapes, colours etc

2. Add natural pigments made by my husband from weathered Mt Ninderry Rhyolite to the rock areas on Mt Ninderry.

3. Start planning the garden section and animal placement in the mid section, without it looking too crowded.

This commissioned artwork ("A Sunburnt Country) was picked up by the clients on 21/1/23. They loved it and have decided that it is too good for the bedroom - it will now be hung as the main feature of their Lounge room for everyone to see.

This Mixed Media artwork ("Sunshine Coast Wonderland") was purchased and picked up on 7/1/23. The Clients have also Commissioned an artwork in the same style as "A Sunburnt Country" with different colours, lots of pressed flowers, rocks, stormy sky and Mt Ninderry.
