I was keen to do an underwater painting with whales, and what better to start with than a base layer of vibrant acrylic inks over a textured gesso layer. (The turquoise blue in person is quite vivid and vibrant, quite different to the photo. The camera can’t seem to match the luminous colour.) I had been swimming with Manta Rays in Tahiti so I wanted to include them with the beautiful Humpback Whale with baby. I tried adding spatter with Binder Medium, which was successful in representing transparent water droplets.
